Star Trek fans longing to be captain of their own Federation Starship online will be happy to note Cryptic Studios (http://www.crypticstudios.com/) is developing a massively mutliplayer online role-playing game (MMORG) called Star Trek Online (http://www.startrekonline.com/). It will be available for both console and Mac formats.
Cryptic Studios has plenty of experience developing MMORPGs via its popular Champions Online franchise (http://www.champions-online.com/). Cryptic says (http://www.crypticstudios.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=209&Itemid=31) Star Trek Online will let you explore the Star Trek universe in 3D graphics as it "moves into the 25th century." You'll be able to captain your own Federation or Klingon ship, customize it with systems of your choosing, recruit and create your crew, beam down to planets and engage in space battles. There will also be options for player-generated content.
Cryptic, which secured the rights for this online title from CBS Consumer Products, isn't the first to attempt this MMORPG. P2 Entertainment, which originally had the rights, stopped working on it (http://www.warcry.com/articles/view/breakingnews/2802-Breaking-News-P2-Out-As-Star-Trek-Online-Developer) in January. The title sat in limbo until it was picked up in the last few days.
The Star Trek Online developer promises to unveil gameplay footage as well as more details at the annual Las Vegas Star Trek convention on August 10. It will also stream the event live via the MMORPG's Web site (http://www.startrekonline.com/).

Waste of a license. Imagine a game where you have 3 empires, separated by a neutral zone, in space, on big starships, etc. It's the perfect RvR setting and they're not exploiting it.
